My Stack Box: Your Choice For Moving And Personal Storage in Hollywood, FL

Hollywood, a coastal city in the Southern region of the state of Florida, is located north of the city of Miami and south of Fort Lauderdale. With a population over 155,000, Hollywood is the third largest city in Broward County, and it is the 12th largest city in the state. Hollywood is also part of the Metropolitan Miami Area. The origin of o the city Hollywood dates back to the 1920’s, when Joseph Westley Young was scouting locations in the state to build his “Dream City in Florida.” Young envisioned a city along the Atlantic Ocean expanding westward towards the Everglades with the intracoastal waterway, man-made lakes and numerous roads. Young named the new Florida city “Hollywood By The Sea” after the South California city he was also very fond of. Young purchased thousands of acres of land in his Hollywood By The Sea and spent millions on the construction of his city, which would soon become a destination for Northerners either vacationing or seeking a winter home. It’s estimated that in 1960 the city of Hollywood had over 12,000 single family homes and 2,400 hotel rooms.

Many of Young’s visions for his dream city of Hollywood are still present in the city a hundred years later. In the 1920s a 1.5mile long boardwalk patterned after the Atlantic City boardwalk, was constructed along Hollywood Beach. The boardwalk stands today as a popular walking and running path on Hollywood Beach with numerous restaurants and bars. Young’s plan for his city, also featured three central circles in the area along the main road Hollywood Boulevard. Though renamed, the circles exist today as Young Circle, Watson Circle and Presidential Circle.

Although the devastating Hurricane of 1926, deterred the initial growth of Hollywood, the city rebounded years later. In the 1940s World War II came to Hollywood Florida. The Hollywood Beach Hotel was converted into the United States Naval Indoctrination and Training School, while the Hollywood Golf and Country Club was used as a recreation center for U.S. servicemen. With the extension of Hollywood Boulevard from State Road 7 to U.S.27 in 1954, growth in the city of Hollywood expanded westward. In 1958, the Diplomat Hotel opened on Hollywood Beach and became a popular resort and entertainment destination for visitors worldwide. The hotel was demolished in 1998 and reopened in 2002. The Diplomat today stands alongside Margaritaville Resort as two popular South Florida vacation destinations. The two are eclipsed in popularity by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in West Hollywood which opened in 2004 and expanded its operations in 2019 with an iconic Guitar Shaped tower hotel that can be seen miles away.

Numerous oceanside condominiums also line Hollywood Beach and its Intracoastal Waterway. Hollywood is also a popular golf community with 72 golf courses located in or near the city, including the Club Emerald Hills, the Hillcrest Golf Club, The Orangebrook Golf Club and the Hollywood Beach Golf Resort. Hollywood is the home of TY Park, a 138.6 acre outdoor recreational park that features a marina and water park, along with a swimming lagoon and RV campground.
