My Stack Box
Jupiter, the Northernmost town in Palm Beach County, Florida is a popular residential and retirement community with a population of over 61,000 residents. Adjacent to the cities of Hope Sound, Palm Beach Gardens and Riviera Beach, Jupiter sits alongside the Loxahatchee River. Nearby, Jupiter Beach faces the Atlantic Ocean. Located 84 miles north of Miami, Jupiter is also the northmost community in the Miami Metropolitan area. The town of Jupiter also holds the distinction of being named “The Happiest Seaside Town in the Nation” by Coastal Living Magazine in 2012, while this year Stacker Newsletter named Jupiter “The 12th Best Southern Beach Town to Live In.”

The area of Jupiter was originally named for the Hobe Indian tribe, who were the first residents of the Florida community. Legend has it that a Spanish mapmaker misunderstood the name and called it Jobe.  Additional mapmakers further misunderstood the name and translated it to the name of the Roman god Jupiter.

Jupiter Inlet, an area inside the town of Jupiter, is the home of the Jupiter Lighthouse, a historic landmark that also houses a museum. In 1973, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby sits the Jupiter Inlet Colony, a private island that is the second most expensive small town in America with the median home value estimated at $2.8 million.

Jupiter is also the home of the Palm Beach International Raceway, a racing facility which currently hosts numerous hot rod auto racing events.

Film star Burt Reynolds also called Jupiter home for decades before his death 2018. Reynolds lived on a 160 acre ranch in Jupiter Farms that he purchased in the 1980’s. Reynolds is also instrumental to bringing art and culture to the town of Jupiter. He started the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater in the 1978 to help train younger actors and performers entering into show business.  The theater currently lives today as the Maltz Jupiter Theater, a non-profit, professional theater

As the end of daylight saving time (DST) approaches for 2024, many Floridians are preparing to "fall back" by setting their clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 3. This annual ritual, established to save energy and make better use of daylight, has been the subject of extensive debate in Florida and across the U.S. In recent years, there have been numerous attempts to make DST permanent through legislation, notably the Sunshine Protection Act, proposed by Florida lawmakers.
