Coral Springs, a community in the Miami Metropolitan area is the fifth largest city in Broward County, Florida. Located 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale and 43 miles south of West Palm Beach, Coral Springs has a population of approximately 135,000. The city of Coral Springs grew at a steady pace from the 1970’s through the 1990’s, adding 35,000 residents every decade. A total of 19 public schools were built in Coral Springs, including Coral Springs High School and Taravella High School. Coral Square Mall, a regional shopping mall opened in 1984, drawing visitors from neighboring communities of Coconut Creek, Tamarac, Sunrise, Parkland and Lauderhill. The opening of the Sawgrass Expressway in the western region of Coral Springs created more population growth for the city. With strict building codes, as well as a low crime rate and a family friendly environment, the community of Coral Springs has become an attractive place to live and raise a family.
In 1997 the Coral Springs Art Center and Museum of Art opened. The 1,400 seat auditorium is a popular venue for concerts, theatrical presentations, opera and ballet, while the museum showcases nationally known artists, as well as local and native Florida artists.
