Whether you’re in the process of moving from North Lauderdale to East Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach to Delray Beach, Port Saint Lucie to Saint Augustine or require extra personal storage for an extended period of time at your Wellington home, packing your personal storage container can be a daunting task. Not to mention, when you properly fill your personal storage container, you’ll be able to avoid issues, such as uneven weight distribution and shifting during transit, which could ultimately cause damages and other issues. We at My Stack Box understand your concerns and frustrations and have assembled this guide to assist you with packing your personal storage container.
GET ORGANIZED
- Get rid of unwanted items you no longer have any need for. Loading your personal storage container is not the time to hem and haw over whether to keep an appliance, article of clothing, collectible or piece of furniture. Place items you no longer want in a pile to be either given away or discarded.
- Use stackable storage boxes similar in size to pack your items. You’ll be able to load your container more uniformly. Odd-shaped boxes that you find at the supermarket may be free but they may not easily stack next or on top of each other.
- Divide all of your filled boxes into heavy and light piles. This will make it easier to properly distribute the weight in your My Stack Box container when you load it.
- Number and label each box you fill. Keep an Excel or Google Sheet with a corresponding list of the items inside. This will make it simpler to find something you may need or want to open first.
- Take an inventory of bath towels, hand towels, pillows and blankets you have on hand. Each of these items come in handy during packing, especially wrapping fragile items such as figurines and glassware.
- Reinforce the bottom and top of the boxes you fill to ensure their safety.
Loading Your Personal Storage Container
- Store and pack your items from the flo or to ceiling.
- Start filling your container with heavier items, such as appliances and furniture at the bottom, followed by lighter items on top of the heavier items.
- Gauge yourself to place the heaviest items in the center of your storage container.
- Try to distribute the weight evenly from end-to the other end of the container, as well as side by side.
- Stand up sofas and upholstery to maximize space. Remove legs from upholstery and furniture to not only maximize space, but also to ensure that there will be no damage to the items, while they are in transit.
- Fill and maximize your space. Use boxes and small items to fill open spaces in your containers. Fill garbage bags with clothes to fill in the spaces as well to add stability.
- Use blankets, comforters and pillows to protect your furniture.
- Create wall-like layers as you fill your personal storage container.
- Place odd-shaped items, such as bikes and vacuums on top of boxes.
- Load mattresses close to the door ends to create an added layer of stability and protection.
Additional Precautions
- Purchase moisture absorber packs to prevent against mold and mildew, especially if you’re going to store your container for any period of time. While My Stack Box containers have dual air ventilation and available air conditioned storage warehouses, its’s always best to take added precautions.
- Keep your My Stack Box personal storage container safe whenever it is left unattended by using locks on both sides.
- Take your time loading and unloading your personal storage container. When you rent a My Stack Box container, there is no time limit on how long you can keep your container. Avoid damages to the items in your container by both taking your time loading it as well as unloading it.
